i dont know mother, i don’t know which song will make me smile. i
only know the song you sang for me, mother, the one that brought a
tear to my eye. tear of joy? of sorrow? oh mother i don’t know.
i only know i can’t sing it just like you mother. i can’t do it the
way you wanted. oh mother i beg you, don’t cry, I’ll find my melody
you know I’ll try. but please understand mother, your tune is not for
me. oh don’t be harsh mother don’t try to lecture me on the hard and
true world reality.
i beg of you don’t try to control me, don’t rip my independence
to shreds because you worry, you demand too much just because you
care? care! of course i’ll always know, but mother your well willed
intentions, the knowledge you lay before me does not help if you make
the choices too. Why put in the time if the decision is not up to me, if
it’s only up to you.
Then in the heat of battle you turn and start to mitigate, a peace
to a war you know you started, a settlement for a trail you did not
wish to pursue. Still we are now forced to meet in no mans land,
holding white flags, signing treaties, and still i think i hear your tune
linger in the air.
